May Radio 2025 Alternative New Music

black and gray microphone with stand

So it feels like there is way more new music that was presented this month on the radio compared to previous, I'm assuming that a second wave of touring is going to be schedule for the summer. I'll compare the counts compared to last month but a lot of the dominating songs came out this year and last year, compared to legacy bands and the one hit wonders.

Lots of new songs in may which I love new songs. As much as I love Spotify for their new alt playlist, it's always so busy and too many options and the radio just highlights a handful of new artist to deep dive! I actually find a lot of new songs through my personal playlists on Spotify probably through the algorithms so shout out to that because not only am I getting new music but also new and up and coming bands when I check their socials, I feel the algorithm right now at the moment is more diplomatic. All the links down below are acts going on tour too who is basically everyone! These songs are honestly the same pretty much as last month but new released songs of the year none of the less.

Besides the top 30, there were a handful of other artists and songs that were new and just coming out listed below. The songs above were kind of the same as May just in the top 30 not just new songs of the month. below are new songs of the month.  Last month a hand full of artists just straight up weren't even played in the month that were on the top 30 and maybe they just ended their tours or in the middle of them?anyways. Wolf Alices song rocks, Ritalin is an amazing song and Gethsemanenis honestly kinda my new obsession.

Wolf Alice's song Boom Baby Boom popped up anticipating their album release later this year, looks like they are on a Europe tour then a North American stint for two months then back to Europe. Dexter and The Moonrocks has a United States tour with some festival dates sprinkled in there as well. Cameron Whitcomb  it looks like is doing two months in a northern American tour mainly Canada then a couple months in Europe as well! YungBlud looks like he is doing a couple months in  North American then goes to a Europe tour through October starting with a handful of festivals in August. Half Alive has maybe a dozen dates, one in Europe a few in Australia, and then Lollapalooza. Car Seat the Headrest  is doing a handful of Dates in North American then a couple Festival dates too!

In the top 50 songs looks like a lot of people are on the road. For the guys with new songs released this year at least.  Giovannie and the Hired Guns  June to August are touring with festival dates peppered in. Turnstile it looks like is doing a festival summer in Europe and in United States and one or two one offs. Fountaines D.C.  is doing a European summer with dates and festivals! Ghost is doing a North American arena tour July to September with one UK festival in July. Ramona Flowers  looks like they are finishing up a North American tour in a few weeks. Badflower opens for 311 for a few months then opens for Three Days Grace for their Europe tour till December.

Wetleg is finished up a Europe tour then some festivals then North American Tour with some festivals then back to Europe in October. Sleep Token is doing an Arena tour in September and October. Bad Suns it looks like is in the middle of their tour ending in a couple weeks in North America. Coheed and Cambria  is starting a tour in August. Linkin Park is doing an arena tour showing off their new singer switching between Europe and North America for their tour and festival dates as well. Franz Ferdinand starts in Europe then goes to North American then turned to world tour in Asia, Australia and such. Mumford and Sons are doing a mid sized venue tour for the next couple of months  through October with a rotating cast of openers which I love.

Sombr is doing a North American/Europe/Australia tour with festivals in there too. Djo is going to Europe in a few days then back to North America with some festivals too. Papa Roach  is starting in Europe then going to North America. Green Day is a festival act this year headlining dates and some one offs for shows. Shinedown is doing an arena tour North American with festivals too! The Black Keys is doing a theater tour continuing now then Europe then North American again with festival dates sprinkled in! Everyone is going on tour or is on tour!

Coachella/stagecoach 2025

2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

There were a handful of artists who I had meant to see in Indio for Coachella and Stagecoach and others who I ended up at and as much as I have FOMO, I wouldn't change a lot of my decisions the past month for a lot.

Friday I wanted to see The Go Go's, MARINA, Tyla, LISA, Miike Snow, Parcels, and Lady Gaga. a lot of these artists I wanted to see because like LISA, I have seen her before and know she puts on a great show, Lady Gaga as well, and I wanted to see what her next tour would be like. Other artist The Go Go's, Tyla, and MARINA I know a couple of their songs and wanted to see them live. Miike Snow and The Parcels, I have heard great things about them both.

for Friday, I started off at the Do Lab, going to see Patricio, and J Philips. I truly believe you could just spend the whole weekend there, the vibes were amazing. Coco & the breezy I tried to see in the Yuma tent but the line and then ultimately getting into the venue didn't feel worth it so I went to check out the Sahara tent with Austin Millz. tons of fans, I sat on the hill for a great view and then made my way to see Maribou state, who were amazing live, new fan for sure. TOPS and Thee Scared Souls I checked out before heading into work.

For Friday night the first weekend I ended up missing MARINA which was crushing but caught some of Sara Landry charging my phone and stuff. I saw LISA's whole set, great vibes, huge fan base, walked around a bit and caught some of Missy Elliot. Watched a little bit of the Parcels while waiting for lady gaga and they felt like a vibe for sure and wished I could have watched them properly. Now lady gaga put on a show but also for the casual fan it almost became touch and go due to the dark vibes and song transitions. Lots of fans ended up leaving for Mustard on the other side. But make no mistake, she put on a show, it did have a handful of songs I did not know, but I am a casual fan. I do wish I went to the do lab at the end of the night after her to see the surprise guests...

Saturday morning I literally just saw Ed Sheeran and Jimmy Eat World. I do not regret seeing Jimmy Eat World and Ed Sheeran just bummed I didn't watch new artists that day. I did have a great spot for ed Sheeran at the barricade and Jimmy East World sounded amazing live and I was close as well to the main stage, but I wish I had more time to see other people, Sam Fender was an artists I wish I could see. Glass Beams, Disco Lines and Alok were all artists I was told to check out.

Saturday night I saw Charli XCX, Green Day, The Dare, and Blood Oath with Sarah Landry and co. Literally I think this day I had little to zero regrets. I walked around a bit, caught up with coworkers and saw great acts with amazing energy from their fan bases. There were many other artists that played this day maybe if I did a deep dive I would see if I had a second chance but over all great day. Green Day I had to have known like the whole setlist, The Dare was just groovy, Charli XCX I was not a fan but the fanbase was huge there and great atmosphere. I might be like into EDM this year cuz Blood Oath was awesome and the Do Lab like I said was amazing, I could have gotten lost in there for the whole day.

Sunday started at the Do Lab with Shima and Athena the to Tom Breu  . I saw a little bit of the beaches but had to go into work. shaboozey seemed great live, , I saw a little bit of Meute as well on the outdoors stage. Sunday night was Chase and Status, then Rudimental, who I saw instead of Zedd which was such a win because it was so not crowded. then I left for post Malone for the end of the night, even though I should have just went back to the Do Lab to see I think maybe Dom Dolla? I forget the special guest.

Stagecoach I was exhausted and only made it to a few shows , Zach Bryan, Tpain, Nelly, but I was hearing Sterile I should check out, the

Overall, I love discovering new music and vibes, and festivals and concerts are always a great place to find new sounds. For Concerts, don't skip the openers! they are the guys who are next up! like 5 years ago Post was opening for Bieber and Jelly Roll was an opener as well, where Stagecoach he was a headliner. It's amazing seeing artist growth! Like Alex Warren I saw for a free iHeart show a few years ago and he was a guest during Jelly's set, huge stuff for him.

About 10 songs that came out this year. Barbarian is a huge song and a catchy one. Papa roach is new, "One Eye Bastard" is a huge Green Day song, feels very British, the guitar riffs and all. "Emergence" by Sleep Token is a ride and awesome story, broken up into creative sections. Archbishop song is alright, not acrazy fan but very Jack White song . "It's Amazing To Be Young" by Fountain DC was okay, "Up From The Bottom', not my favorite Linkin Park song but I was a fan of the Chester songs and it just feels like a cover band at the moment. They should promote more new songs on the radio rather than the older hits since they are touring and introduce new songs to their audience.

Every other song seemed to be the same as the top songs from March but that makes sense because of artists going on tour this summer.  Actually a majority of the songs most played this month were songs that came out last year.

Here's other new songs of the month on the radio. Love this time of year where artists are presenting more new songs this year. A majority of the streamed songs were from last year but I always love discovering new songs. it looks like May has been a month so far introducing a lot of new songs on there radio which I love, but right now I am finding and discovering new artists and songs through the Spotify algorithm.
