Coachella 2024 is about the music



Coachella this week 1 is bringing the festival back around to music. With the influencer olympics having their own festival basically set up catering directly to them is the Revolve Festival. This year it seemed to have less focus on the clothings and the brand deals and more of the up and coming artists. Starting with the top moments from the first weekend!
 

Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter were two huge former Disney stars turner musicians. Olivia Rodrigo was a special guest of No Doubt. In the past Olivia seemed on tour bringing out artists, out left field act like Billy Joel and Jewel. I feel like she isn’t punk rock, more pop but also I am not in her demo so I could be wrong. Gwen did go pop in her solo project so similar comparable musical story. I thought Rodrigo was angling to be pop but maybe angsty teen so that's fitting with No Doubt. If she's pop they should have collaborated on a Gwen song maybe rich girl, holla back girl.cool! but maybe more of a Avril Levine path instead. Disney must have made a huge amount of money with is booking or publicity. 

the no doubt collab felt like more of an exposure for Olivia than for Gwen. I was to see a throwback set with throwback acts. I wonder if Disney is still financing rodrigos career and was a pay for play because then I get it. It’s disneys last laugh thought because both Olivia and Sabrina carpenter where both there so hats to them.

No Doubt: Bringing out Olivia Rodrigo, should have brought her out during one of her famous songs or done a secret song like a Gwen stafani song, sweet escape was huge in 2007 and brought ou t other 2007 acts with her, pop girls. rich girl, holla back girl.cool! such a throwback mini set in itself.  

Other collabs that would be sick would be throwback 2006/2007 pop girls  like Fergie, Nelly fertado, pink girls or other guys or a band cross over Timbaland, gym class heroes, Justin Timberlake?? Bands Fall Out Boyif you want to keep it more rock with songs like don't speak, just a girl, Spiterwebs, its my life.  all American Rejects, Fort Minor maybe. Evanescence?

Speaking of nostalgia, blur was there and performer song 2. sublime was there and performed with the Bradley Nowells son son. Deftones was there. 

 

Billie Eilish was huge popping up at DJ sets and being a guest for Lana Del Ray and even teased new music while dancing with her friends on a DJs set. 



They have complimenting melancholy voices during the whispery songs and gorgeously sad harmonies, cloudy rainy days.

Of course Taylor swift and Travis Scott were there in the crowd for Ice Spice for their collar song and Sabrina carpenter was there (her opener) so I feel like it would be huge if she did a guest spot with her or with Lana  (collabed with her on a song)  on week 2. Also Taylor Swift was with Travis at her partner and crimes set Jack Antonoffs Bleachers set. 




Coachella is such a huge fomo even with everyone huge in everywhere just hanging around. Bieber was spotted, Taylor was spotted everywhere with travis. 

Overall, best time for discovering new music, lots of festivals are happening this year and if you want to see all the artists who's songs are everywhere on TikTok or on the radio its perfect but Coachella this year is bringing back discovering new music world wide. they had such spanish music acts, they had R&B acts and many cultural acts I want to check out.

For weekend 2, I want to see more collabs not even musically, not just mentorship but even just appreciation of another genre, band, generation of music, or whatever because this is what is exciting as a fan seeing that cross over of "oh I didn't expect this person to love them, I should check them out".  Music is universal and unfortunately there are a million songs out there and even just a famous person watching an up and coming acts set can bring them a huge audience. 

Music is such a great way to collabs from fashion, to set and art design which is always on point and creative (similarly to Burning Man ). not only do the visuals itself make the space more fun to be creative in but also discovering new music, and art. I'll go over the fashion side of Coachella whenever but it might already be saturated and too commercialized to pull and pool the best dressed this year boho cheque, desert hippie esthetic(I.e Vanessa Hudgens)and its exciting to see what else will happen for week 2. 

So the last day of week 1 involved Kesha, Paris Hilton and oh I forgot to mention Grimes had tech issues with her set, but with Anyma they both had sick graphics and Justin Bieber was there to guest spot and Will Smith showed up with J Balvin and Doja Cat performed as well and Rihanna was there in the crowded to watch ASAP.
