Governors Ball 2024

 Gov ball and any other festival might be the best way to bring back live music from a consumer and a production perspective in this build back era. The costs are just tech rentals, security, ticket takers and third party sellers for merch, food vendors, and activations for promo. Radio row and interviews for press is perfect for marketing but is not necessary with social media. It is most likely easier to just hand out photo passes for the 3 songs. You use the same production staff for every stage and every band, they just have to strike the stage crazy fast between sets or use a rotating stage. and can use extra security as people to get artists to and from stage with golf carts. The hospitality is super easy too with just trailers for headline acts and flip between acts. 

The acts were broken down into my mind as arena acts, mid size venue acts and intimate venue acts, with post, the killers, sza all arena acts (honestly labyrinth could maybe do arenas with the right coliners) and other acts known for their social celebrity  Dominic Fike (euphoria), Renee rapp, Stephen Sanchez, jessie murph, yung gravy, farruko (pepas was hugeeeee) chappell roan (love her sound and want to hear more from her) or their ability to fill midsized venues, sexyy red, Sabrina carpenter (could maybe do more..?) Carly rae Jepsen, labyrinth...

I might be aged out of this specific festival demo because it is always huge event every year but business wise I wish there were more heavy hitters on the bill, I don't know if the budget is there yet...It always seems to be a great time though so no complaints so far. The only time I heard more about another show this weekend was when Hozier was playing a couple streets over for 4 sold-out nights. Direct competition but he has had the biggest hit with 'Too Sweet' literally playing everywhere. 

That's where festivals right now are lacking, that a single artist could pull a huge audience in comparison to a whole lineup of acts, says a lot about where the music space is at right now, a lot of up and comers and huge acts and very little in between....the capacity for Gov Ball is 50k per day and Hozier himself  sold out 4 13k venues with around 52k people.....
